Vintage Fashion Queen Barbie

Imagine if you will being a young girl or a doll lover of any age, when the vintage fashion queen Barbie first made her appearance. Just having the box in your hands made your hair stand on end, all over.

How exciting to hold her in your hands, while gazing in awe and amazement at such a magnificent doll. However, not just any doll and not just any Barbie doll. This was the very first gift set Barbie doll.

The Fashion Queen Barbie appeared in public for the first time, in 1963. Her brown painted hair was molded to her head, and she wore a removable gold and white turban with a matching gold and white swimsuit.

You see the previous editions of Barbie had either a fixed ponytail or a bubble cut hairstyle, which left a lot to be desired in fashionable hairdos. (article continued below)...

While other doll companies were hurriedly running behind in the manufacturing market and creating their own brand of fashion dolls, the makers of Barbie decided she needed something special.

They were right! This fashion queen, came with not one, but three different wigs, while wigs were a fashionable accessory for real women.

Her wigs were a red side part flip, a brunette pageboy and a blonde upswept, bubble on bubble hairdo. They could be easily changed to match any occasion or attire. There were even additional, separate wigs sets with various colors and hair styles available for the fashion queen Barbie.

Her original outfit was a white with golden stripe swimsuit, with a matching Cleopatra style turban and pearl stud earrings.

She wore white open toe shoes and her eyes were blue, under thick molded black eyelashes, while her lip color may have varied from a reds, pinks, white or frosted as well as bright to pale corals.

She may or may not have worn blush or she may have high color tones in her face makeup. She wears the vintage markings of straight legs.

The fashion queen Barbie wig wardrobe sets become very popular in 1964, when a fashion queen head with wig stand and wigs sets were sold with no body. Therefore this particular wig wardrobe was useful for bringing an older Barbie up to date in her hair fashion statements.

However, there were various productions of the fashion queen Barbie, throughout the years, so that many of them are very different from one another.

It was very possible for you and your best friend to have a fashion queen Barbie and them not really favor one another in their coloring of makeup, which was one thing that made having this particular doll even more fun to play with or collect.

In 1967 the Fashion Queen Barbie started along the path of becoming a vintage treasure when the model was eventually retired in that year.

In four years time, the Vintage Fashion Queen Barbie became one of the most popular dolls of the time and they are still highly sought after today by collectors as well.

Finding one today is a true pleasure, even if she was mass produced in a range of colors and styles of wig wardrobe sets, even then Barbie had her own special appearance and attitude and we all know that every girl, no matter her age wants to be Barbie or have Barbie, she has everything!

@ Amy Smith - Thanks for stopping by…

On average a Fashion Queen barbie never removed from the box is worth $375 - $525 USD. One that has been removed but is still mint is worth $150 - $225 USD and the value of the average Fashion Queen Barbie is $75 - $150 USD. Each wig also has a value between $10 - $20 USD and the turbine can go for between $25 - $50 USD usually.

However, please note that these numbers are just rough estimates, it is actually hard to put a value to your doll because the prices are always changing and in the end, your doll is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I recommend checking out eBay and seeing what others are selling theirs for currently and then pricing it around there…
